TASTE is what I love the most about chili. The varieties of the meats combined with the hearty, warm, spicy and freshness of all the other ingredients not only tastes delish, it comforts the soul and eases the mind because you know it’s good for you. It’s a complete meal. It has protein, carbs, fruit, dairy and it can have veggies too! Not to mention, you can feed an Army with just one pot! All you need is dessert. Can you make chili-flavored ice cream?
How long have you been perfecting this recipe? Does it have a name?
Truth be told, we’re our own worse critic and I knew I can make my flavors better and better until finally, “Good Times’ Chili” was born. Life is full of trials and errors and I have to admit, perfecting my recipe took OVER A YEAR and my entire family lovingly tried each batch. It was a fun process and I enjoyed the challenge.
What got you into cooking?
This answer is not a “WHAT” - it’s “WHO (or is it WHOM?).” My DAD has a sparkle in his eye when he cooks. He’s always smiling and laughing too! You can actually see and taste the passion that he puts into every dish. He truly loves it. Where’s the best Filipino restaurant in Daly City? My response will always be, “My Dad’s house.” Migrating from the Philippines over 50 years ago, he had the American dream to open a restaurant. I’ve inherited this dream and one day, we will and we’ll call it “SERGIO’s” because I not only share his love and passion for cooking, but also his name.
What do you have that the other contestants don’t?
Everyone has heart and soul and I’m sure passion when it comes to their cooking. These traits are required to be successful in not just cooking, but life. I carry this dedication into my cooking and perfecting my dishes with the loving support of my team. What do I have that the other contestants don’t, you ask? This answer is simple, “MY FAMILY.” They are my core. They encourage my passion, my heart and my soul. Their support is unwavering and I’m truly grateful. Whatever the outcome is, I know I’ve already won (but I still want the trophy!!).
What’s your team’s motto?
FAMILY
Anything else we need to know?
We have the best Chili in Daly City, we trying to win over San Francisco!
